Bunnings BBQs :: Thank You & We Need Your Help Again (Sun 12 Sept)

Image
Thank you to those families who were able to assist at the BBQ on Saturday at Bunnings. We had a very successful fundraiser having to restock our supplies by 12 O’clock, finally selling out of everything by 2pm. I will let families know the amount that was raised through this fun event. Once again thank you to those families and the leaders who assisted on the day and thank you also to the families who were unable to attend this time and let us know. I understand that it is not always possible to help out due to other commitments. We will be running our last BBQ at Bunnings for this year on Sunday September 12th from 9am. Once again I am asking families to help out at this fundraiser as all money raised goes to assisting our children in either Scouts or Venturers. Whilst this is the Sunday of the Cohen Shield Weekend, families who have a child at the Cohen Shield Camp could still help out in the morning as pick up is not until after lunch. Looking forward to hearing from you in

Digging in for tree day in Mildura :: Sunraysia Daily 2/8/10

Image
SUNRAYSIA scouts yesterday banded together and worked their green-thumbs in a huge tree planting effort. More than 60 scouts, cubs, joeys, venturers, rovers, and parents met to plant 300 trees behind the Red Cliffs Scout Hall as part of National Tree Day. About 400 native trees and shrubs were also planted in Mildura to rehabilitate and beautify the channel reserve connecting the new marina and the Etiwanda Wetlands. The Sunraysia scouts were just some of the hundreds of thousands of volunteers planting trees around the country. National Tree Day is Australia’s largest community tree planting event and is responsible for planting more than 15 million native trees and shrubs over the past 15 years. Marcus Blount crew leader Jaimie Rodd said the group had planted twice as many trees in Red Cliffs as last year. “Scouts care for the environment and it’s also good to get out and do something in uniform to show we’re active in the community,” he said. Steve's Hike Notes

Things to think about... You are going on hike, but unlike any other type of camp, you need to carry everything, on your back. So here are some tips to make life a little easier. Weight! This is your biggest enemy, every single gram extra you carry is going to cause you the extra bit of pain! Weight everything, you'll be surprised! Aim for less than 10kg . Food -I know we don't all like the dehydrated foods, but carrying food that already contains water is pointless as you are also carrying water just to drink. Test and try different types BEFORE you go hiking. Drinks - OK so water is a little boring, don't go cordial or energy drinks. try a little powdered cordial or Tang! lt's light and slightly tasty. Share - As a group of 2-3 you can lighten each others load by sharing the tent, food and cooking gear. Too much junk - Before you put your gear into your pack, put it into a heap, step back and look. Is there anything you don't really need? QUESTIONS: Does that fu
